The best method of cooking prime rib in a home oven would be to roast in an oven with seasoning at a low temperature for a period of time for the taste, tenderness and equal cooking to take place though the whole prime rib and not just in certain areas.

One of the first things a person needs is a good roasting pan. The roasting pan should be long enough for the roast wide enough and 2″ depth to hold juices to use for the roast.

Seasonings such as kosher salt, garlic, rosemary, basil, pepper, and other seasoning to ones tastes.

Meat thermometer is another important cooking utensil for prime rib. With the meat thermometer this will give the temperature with in the roast and not the out side. The inside is the most important temperature to tell if the meat is rare, medium or well done.

Pick out a prime rib with rib bones on the meat or with out bones. With out the rib bones will be less in cost, however remember in the poundage the price and pounds will include the bone.

Once home with the Prime Rib place the roast in the roasting pan, with the seasoning rub in the roast all around the roast leaving a layer of seasoning on the outside of the roast.

Once the seasoning in rub in place the roast in the pan with placing in the oven at 400 degrees for about 20 to 30 minutes to give the prime rib a crust layer to help hold in the seasonings and juices. Once the roast has these crusts like layer, turn the oven down to around 275 degrees. Let cook for at least a couple of hours.

Every hour the roast should be check for doneness. By using a meat thermometer, place the thermometer in the center of the meat. 110 to 120 should give a rare meat, 120 to 130 should give a medium meat and around 140 for well done. One thing to keep in mind is to take the prime rib out 10 to 20 degrees sooner than the require doneness. The prime rib will continue to cook even after the roast is done.

Once the prime rib is at the right temperature for doneness take the roast out and let stand at least 30 minutes before cutting. This will help with the cutting of the prime rib by leaving the roast sit and rest.

The juices in the roast pan can be use to warm up meat if the prime rib meat cools down. Place the juice in a sauce pan warm place the meat in the juice for a couple of minutes.

Prime rib is excellent when cooked at home. The cooking process is essentially easy and fun.
